A ball lock pin is another feature of this Irwin impact socket adapter. This feature provides a secure lock between the drive end of the socket and the tool. When fully loaded, a spring mechanism pushes the ball bearing back out of the shaft and into the host tool. To remove it, simply press a button that pushes the ball bearing back into the joint’s shaft. This releases the lock and allows you to pull the socket free.
