HOW TO USE:
- Preparation: Before starting, ensure you have a properly sized hole for tapping. The recommended drill bit size for a 6-32 NC thread is 7/64" or 0.1065". Use a center punch to mark the hole location and drill a straight hole to the correct depth.
- Lubrication: Apply a suitable cutting oil to the tap and the hole. Lubrication reduces friction, extends the tap's life, and helps produce a cleaner thread.
- Start the Thread: Insert the tap into the tap wrench and center the tap over the drilled hole. Apply light downward pressure and begin turning the tap clockwise (for right-hand threads) while keeping it perpendicular to the workpiece.
- Cutting and Backing Off: After the tap has engaged the material, continue to turn it clockwise for about a quarter to half a turn. Then, turn it counter-clockwise for a quarter turn to break and clear the chips. This prevents the tap from binding or breaking.
- Complete the Process: Repeat the process of turning clockwise and then backing off until the thread is cut to the desired depth. Periodically remove the tap and clean the chips from the hole and the tap itself to maintain a smooth cutting action.
