Description
The Irwin 5/8" 10-24 NC HCS Hexagon Die (6128) is a high-quality threading tool designed for creating and repairing external threads. This robust die is crafted from high-carbon steel (HCS), providing the strength and longevity required for demanding metalworking and repair applications. It's specifically engineered to cut precise 10-24 NC threads, which are commonly found in machine screws and other fasteners. The hexagon shape of the die allows for exceptional versatility, as it can be used with a standard wrench, a socket, or a traditional die stock. This flexibility makes it a practical and valuable tool for various tasks, from rethreading a damaged bolt to cutting new threads on a rod. The right-hand cut direction is standard, making it easy to use for most threading jobs. Whether you are a professional tradesperson, an automotive mechanic, or a DIY enthusiast, this Irwin die provides the reliability and precision needed to ensure threads are cut cleanly and accurately, providing a secure fit for mating fasteners.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
- Creates and Repairs Threads: This die is specifically designed for cutting new 10-24 NC threads on a rod or re-cutting and repairing damaged threads on bolts and screws, restoring their functionality.
- Durable High-Carbon Steel Construction: The die is made from high-carbon steel, which provides excellent wear resistance and durability, ensuring a longer tool life and consistent performance even under heavy use.
- Versatile Hexagon Shape: The hexagonal design allows for multiple usage options. It can be turned with a plain die stock for standard threading operations, or with a wrench or socket for added convenience and access in tight spaces.
- Precise Threading: Engineered to cut exact 10-24 NC threads, this tool ensures a clean and accurate thread profile, which is critical for a strong and secure connection with nuts or other threaded components.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Thread Size: 10-24 NC
- Outside Diameter: 5/8 inches
- Material: High Carbon Steel (HCS)
- Hand of Cut: Right-hand
- Includes: One (1) Irwin 5/8" 10-24 NC HCS Hexagon Die (6128)
HOW TO USE:
- Preparation: Secure the workpiece (the rod or bolt you are threading) in a vise. Ensure the end is clean and free of burrs. Taper the end of the rod slightly with a file or grinder to help guide the die.
- Tool Setup: Place the Irwin hexagon die into a suitable die stock handle, a socket, or a wrench that fits its 5/8" diameter. Ensure the cutting edge is facing the workpiece.
- Starting the Thread: Apply a small amount of cutting oil to the workpiece and the die. Position the die squarely over the end of the rod. Apply firm, downward pressure and begin to turn the die clockwise.
- Cutting the Thread: Continue to turn the die clockwise, maintaining steady pressure. Every full turn, back the die up a quarter turn counter-clockwise to break the chips and clear the cutting area. This prevents the tool from binding and ensures a clean cut.
- Finishing: Once you have cut the desired length of thread, carefully turn the die counter-clockwise to remove it from the workpiece. Clean the newly cut threads with a wire brush to remove any metal shavings and inspect them for quality.
BENEFITS OF USING IRWIN 5/8" 10-24 NC HCS HEXAGON DIE (6128):
- Cost-Effective Repairs: Instead of replacing an entire bolt or fastener with damaged threads, this die allows for quick and effective repairs, saving time and money.
- Increased Versatility: Its hexagon shape provides the flexibility to be used with a variety of common hand tools, allowing you to choose the best option for your specific working conditions.
- Consistent Performance: The high-carbon steel construction ensures that the die maintains its sharp cutting edges over time, providing reliable and consistent thread quality across multiple uses.
- Portability and Convenience: The compact size and durable nature of the die make it easy to store and transport, making it a valuable tool to have on hand for on-site repairs or projects.
FEATURES:
- Right-hand cutting direction for standard threading applications
- High-carbon steel composition for enhanced tool life
- Hexagonal body design for a secure grip with a wrench or socket
- Designed to cut precise 10-24 NC thread pitch
- Intended for use in plain die stock handles
